Coastal Communities
We’re three months deep into this t-shirt endeavor and still holding hope to move the last of our first batch of tees so we can get the next production cycle underway. There’s been a lot to learn as we go. Marketing tees are no easy task! Getting the word out and making the internets do some legwork is time-consuming and can be expensive. But it’s all good. All in the name of getting our brand and products out there.
One thing we’re dialing in a bit differently is to not lean in so heavily on the Three Arch Bay angle. My wife warned me, but I was insistent on developing that initial product line. As you’ll see, some of our designs have morphed into a more ‘generic’ theme. It’s all about the surf, the history, the experience of the beach – anywhere along the California Coast.
In this spirit, I’ve been working on a series of posters that stray from the Three Arch laser focus and encompass the entire California Coastline. All of our coastal neighbors, up and down this awesome state, share the same love for this ocean at our collective feet. I wanted to give a shout out to these cities, towns, ‘unincorporated communities’, and ‘census-designated places’ that dot the shoreline. Each with their own stories, people, nooks and crannies and the familiar smell of salt air.
I began developing some logos which then became three posters which I’m looking in to having silkscreened at some point. Sign up for our newsletter, and we’ll let you know when they’re available.
The three posters represent one of the three geographic areas of our state – North, South and Central. The five counties within each of these areas and the cities, places and/or communities within each of those, were given a logo which was the result of a typographic exercise with four typefaces. Each identity contains the date of incorporation and elevation. If a date is not indicated, then the location is either a census designated place or unincorporated community.
